 Gas servicing PQQ and Gas Marks

If you think that gas marks relate to the temperature of your oven in the kitchen you are mistaken. The marks I am talking about pertain to the marks in a gas servicing, breakdown and installation PQQ.
PQQ across all industries are becoming more difficult to pass. The combination of prime contractors dipping down for lower value projects, smaller sub-contractors bidding “up” (hungry because the Prime’s are not feeding them) and other companies diversifying and attempting to leverage their transferable skills into other markets, mean that it has become very competitive, very competitive indeed. Throw into the equation that many companies have in house teams completing their PQQ and tenders and you can see that pass marks are becoming higher and higher.
Take a look at some of our tips below to help you win more contracts.

and tenders are especially competitive. However, not all gas services are the same. Broadly the PQQ are for three main areas.
Servicing: This is the annual 12 month cyclical servicing and safety test. It is often combined with reactive maintenance and may include domestic social housing, public buildings or communal housing.
Reactive maintenance: Self-explanatory but will include out of hours maintenance
Installation: Normally planned replacement programmes across a housing stock
All of the above may be combined together and often include other items such as solid fuel and oil.
We know of recent gas servicing PQQ where scoring 93% was not sufficient to progress to ITT stage. So what to do?

Really think about your responses. When the PQQ asks specific questions, think hard before you tick the “No” box. Can you adapt something that will provide a “Yes”? Think really hard because it only takes a couple of points to miss the cut, in some PQQ you can miss going through to the invitation to tender by just half a point.
Other items to look out for;

• Insurances- Unless the PQQ explicitly states that you can obtain the necessary insurances on award you must have them in advance. If the PQQ asks for the certificates make sure you include them all and not just a letter or list of policy numbers.

• Policies-Not all policies are equal. Your health and safety policy and your equal opportunities must make reference and comply with particular items of legislation. It is simply not good enough to include a policy that you have had for a number of years, or worse still have taken from the internet. Evaluators are trained to review policies and procedures so do not get caught out, make sure your policies are fit for purpose and are specific to your organisation.
