Northern travel organisation Nexus is set to overhaul its website as it looks to implement new technology to improve its services and schedules for customers.

Orange Bus, the Newcastle and London digital company, has won two tenders to handle the overhaul of the site which could include the introduction of realtime data into its operation.

The agency is currently developed the Content Management System which it will continue to support as well through its 12-month contract while also developing a new look and feel for the site before introducing new ideas to make it more useable having also been appointed to handle the first phase of the site’s development.

Completion of the first phase is set for the end of March, upon which the agency will discuss with the client the possibility of carrying out the implementation of connecting realtime data use across its timetables and vehicles should the technology be available.

Julian Leyton, founder of Orange Bus, explained: “We are trying to work out how much realtime data is available out there to patch into. If 90% of the buses are already using GPS then it is time we started to use that, so we’re researching just what is possible at the moment.”
