Interest in the bidding process to carry out building and management of the new Alder Hey Children's Health Park has been described as "amazing".Five consortia, involving more than 30 companies, placed bids to carry out the £288 million project before Tuesday's deadline.
Organisations from the construction, planning, IT, environmental, and engineering industries joined forces to express interest in the project. Richard Glenn, project director, said: "The response to the Alder Hey Children's Health Park bidding process has been amazing."We knew from the start our iconic project would generate a lot of interest in the construction and design world, but until today we had no idea how many of those expressions of interest would progress to the next stage, responding to the rigorous and thorough PQQ process."
The work involves building a 450,000 sq ft hospital, and a 1,200 space car park. The Springfield Park site, owned by Liverpool City Council, has already been given outline planning permission. Once the new hospital is built, most of the existing buildings will be demolished to create parkland in their place. The bidders, which include Laing, Taylor Woodrow, Balfour Beatty, Bovis Lend Lease and Carillion, will be whittled down to a short list of three in August
