Bid writers-Apprenticeships add sparkle to your tender
Even as a
specialist bid writers there are only so many things you can do to make your tender writing stand out. Joining all the regulatory bodies available for your industry and ensuring that you are fully accredited for Health and Safety and quality are standard ways to make your organisation look professional and trustworthy. Offering greater value for price than your competitors is also an excellent way to gain respect from your client and increase your chances of your tender being selected.
For public sector tenders, there is something else you can offer.
Public sector procurement is different from private. Whilst private is often about price and quality above all else, the public sector is often required to balance wider socio-economic factors. Demonstrating that your organisation would be bringing social benefits to the local community is a huge ‘wow factor’ for public sector buyers.
One way you can do this is by offering apprenticeships. Youth unemployment is an increasing problem across most Local Authority areas and tackling this is becoming a considerable headache for the government. The current economic climate means that opportunities for seasoned professionals with years of experience are dwindling. For young people just out of school or college with no experience, the situation is bleak.
Apprenticeships are an established way of bringing fresh, undiscovered talent into an organisation. It is an investment on both sides. For the organisation, they give an opportunity to a young person that would struggle to become established in an industry otherwise. For the young person, they offset a lower than average wage against training and opportunity. Because you are investing in the future of someone, they tend to be more dedicated and effective on the whole than recruiting already trained professionals. They also fill a skills gap where some skills are difficult to find amongst the established working generation.
The benefits to your buyer are also considerable. By ensuring that you recruit apprentices in the area local to the tender you hope to win, you are showing your buyer that in
winning the tender, you wish to invest in and improve that community. A recent survey by Apprentices.org.uk demonstrated that a massive 80% of consumers and B2B buyers are more likely to use a company if it offers apprenticeships. To recognise this fact the organisation has developed an apprenticeship certificate to award companies that invest in young people. This is a powerful addition to your tender submission.
Whilst investing in apprenticeships solely in order to win tenders is unlikely to convince your buyer of your social integrity, genuine investment in young, local people can be an asset to your business and an effective way to add wider to value to your tender submission and increase your chances of winning.
